Our respect for your memories

One person owns each StoryBook. They decide who can add memories, who can see them, who can download them, and whether access ever expires. They can hand some of that control to someone they trust as an Admin. Nobody outside the family — including us — decides who gets to see a StoryBook.

Some families will want help making sense of hundreds of photos and stories from dozens of people. Others won’t want AI anywhere near it. Both are completely fine — it’s a single setting the Owner chooses, and StoryBook works fully either way.

When it’s switched on, AI only ever makes suggestions: a possible album grouping, a draft caption, a guess at where or when a photo was taken. Every suggestion is clearly marked as a suggestion, an organiser reviews and accepts it (in bulk, if that’s easier, with an easy undo), and nothing is decided quietly in the background. Turn AI off and ask, and any suggestions it made are cleared.

We don’t sell advertising, we don’t use your photos, videos or stories to train AI models, and we don’t analyse the content of what you upload for anything other than the features you’ve asked for. The only thing we track for our own purposes is how the product itself is used — page loads, clicks — never the substance of what’s inside a StoryBook.

If a StoryBook is deleted, it’s genuinely gone — the memories, anything we generated from them, and any AI suggestions, on their normal backup cycle. Because that can’t be undone, there’s a 30-day grace window after you ask, in case it was a mistake and you want it back.

When someone sends in a photo, video or story, we ask them to confirm two simple things: that they have the right to share it, and that the family (and StoryBook, so we can run the service) can keep, copy and reuse it as part of that StoryBook. That’s the whole idea — nobody who contributes a memory can later gatekeep the family’s own StoryBook, and nothing is resold or reused anywhere else.

Original photos and videos are kept in private cloud storage, organised separately per StoryBook, and only ever reachable through short-lived links — never a public folder. Captions, dates, people and other details live in a private database alongside your account. Sign-in is handled by a dedicated identity provider, so there’s no password of yours for anyone to lose. The only thing a general-purpose analytics tool ever sees is that a page was viewed or a button was clicked — never what’s in your memories.
